**LHS Football 2012 MARK YOUR CALENDARS Friday, August 17^th LHS/LNHS will host a Football Jamboree at William Jewell College.  Start time is 6pm.  Schools participating in the Jamboree will be Jefferson City, Columbia Hickman, Liberty High School and Liberty North High School.  Please look for additional details in the future.

The Blue Jay baseball team advanced to the sectionals Wednesday night.  Liberty High School will host sectionals next Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 5pm. Come out and support the Blue Jays as they square off with Tonka.

Liberty 3 vs. Staley 2 (District Championship)

It was a beautiful Spring afternoon @ Liberty North as the (24-3) Liberty Blue Jays squared off with (19-6) Staley for the District 16 championship. Spencer Schwandt toed the rubber for the Blue Jays and he was just simply spectacular! After getting a lead off ground ball out, Spencer mowed down the next 5 Falcon hitters striking all of them out. Taking a no hitter into the 3rd inning, Staley's first hit plated 2 runs and the Falcons took an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd inning Liberty could not respond again with any runs and heading to the 4th inning it was still Staley 2-0. Spencer Schwandt continued to pitch with a chip on his shoulder not letting this District stage bother him at all, Spencer struck out the side in the 4th inning.

Liberty settled in offensively and had a chance with bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th inning only to see a would be double tracked down to end the inning. 5th inning now and Spencer set the Falcons down pretty easy 1-2-3 with another strike out in that frame...Liberty bats woke up and finally made their mark, Nathan Volkmann singled to start the inning and on a passed ball advanced to second, Brady Newland moved him over to third and with 2 outs Wes Jones smacked a single to score the Jays first run and make the score 2-1. Jones stole second and after an error by Staley's second baseman Taylor Harmon reached first. There were 2 outs still in the 5th inning and Staley's catcher threw the ball to third and after a mishandled the throw plated Jones making the score 2-2.

Spencer continued to deal on the mound striking out the first 2 batters in the sixth inning and finished off the Falcons with a fly out to end the inning and send the game tied 2-2 with the Jays coming up. After Todd Hinkley was hit by the pitch, Max Miller courtesy ran and with 1 out in the inning stole second base, Taylor Uhlmann moved him over on a ground ball...with 2 outs in the inning Andy Rieth steps up with a 2-1 count and singles over the second baseman's head to plate Max Miller and give the Jays a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the 7th inning. Wes Jones came in the close down the Falcons in the seventh inning to pick up the save and help the Blue Jays win the District 16 title!
